On one occasion in my Sculpture classes I was required to work with wood. The piece, carved from a single block of oak wood, depicts a bird skull hollowed out to act as a vase. The piece is meant to depict to union of two concepts; life and death. The skull is that of raven, an animal typically associated with bad omens and death, while the flowers (Rose, Lilies, and Wisteria) are symbolic of life. I call this piece “Persephone’s Bouquet”.
