Wood Sculpture

Persephone’s Bouquet

On one occasion in my Sculpture classes I was required to work with wood. The piece, carved from a single block of oak wood, depicts a bird skull hollowed out to act as a vase. The piece is meant to depict to union of two concepts; life and death. The skull is that of raven, an animal typically associated with bad omens and death, while the flowers (Rose, Lilies, and Wisteria) are symbolic of life. I call this piece “Persephone’s Bouquet”.

Steel Sculpture

I learned to shape and weld steel to make many unique pieces. The sculpture I call “The Leviathan” is a combination of steel and wood and is an experiment in creating moveable joints. The spine is created of interconnected pieces and the jaw is hinged. The piece “The Gift of Flight” was my first foray into welding, an is inspired by a combination of insect and bird wings. The piece “Death From Above” is made of steel shards unaltered after being cut. The mouse that acts as a base is cast from bronze.

Bronze Sculpture

Through my secondary major in sculpture I experimented with a number of mediums and created many pieces. This series, molded directly in wax and cast in bronze, is inspired by biblical descriptions of higher angels. I call this series First Sphere, the three pieces names The Seraphim, The Cherubim, and The Throne.

Single-Serve Food Packaging

For the concept of a stylish Single-Serve package, I thought of a Parisian aesthetic to embody the freshness one should expect from a quality store bought lunch.

City Project Graphics

During my internship at the Peoria Civic Center we collaborated with the Convention and Visitors Bureau to experiment with a free bus service that would shuttle patrons around the Downtown area during lunch hours. I was tasked with designing the logo, street signs and bus decals that would be used during the course of the program.

Paper Engineering

This paper engineering project was advertised as a “pop-up book for grownups”, like something that would be kept on a coffee table as a conversation piece, so the keyword for this design for me was ‘Sophistication’. When I think of the theme of Time I think of Victorian London with gears and clock towers and sepia tones. The three potential spread would include some form of interaction; the gears in the first spread would turn, the baby buggy in the second would pop up, and the alarm clock would ring.

Organizational Branding

For my Senior Project I chose to use my graphic design skills to promote my other passion; sculpture. I took a double major in sculpture because of how much I enjoyed creating with steel and bronze and power tools. I’ve found however, that welding and metal working are not often considered a woman’s profession. So I decided to brand a hypothetical organization dedicated to women who weld as both a hobby and part of the industry. I made many logo variations to be used for merchandising and to be featured on a website with events, galleries, and stores.

LEGO Repositioning Campaign

This group project involved my partner and I designing a hypothetical campaign to reignite peoples’ love for LEGO. With the name reCONNECT, paired with multiple subtitles and used strategically in ambient marketing, it speaks to the child in all of us and the countless hours spent creating and exploring with LEGO.

Pre-Press Print Booklet

In this collaborative project, I worked with my team to design this Pre-Press booklet. Each folder contains a smaller booklet detailing the different processes that go into creating, preparing, and finally printing a design project.

Wayfinding App Design

The Peoria Zoo Wayfinding App Project was to create a wayfinding app that promoted education, consumer loyalty, and continued use. I implemented an achievement system, an AR Hide-And-Seek game, and multiple options and features to customize each users’ experience.
